Another girl quietly whispers to herself:
And to properly avenge my grandfather!205

Six, in Kabbalah, represents system (3) plus system (3). That is: exchange, interpenetration, cyclical movement, and the interaction of systems.
Cups are emotions, feelings, and memories.
Thus, the Six of Cups embodies exchange, interpenetration, a cycle of feelings—emotions flowing through a certain system.
For instance, it might symbolize the opera, as the interaction between the system of music (orchestra) and the system of theater (singers) on an emotional level.

Seven of Cups

– … And when the third magazine was empty, I suddenly decided to become kind.
For it struck me, all at once and with horror: there aren’t enough bullets for everyone!

The Seven, in Kabbalah, is harmony—harmonizing, the cutting away of all that’s superfluous.
Cups are emotions, feelings, and memories.
Thus, the Seven of Cups embodies the harmonization of feelings—a release from 'excess' or 'misguided' emotions, a cleansing of negative feelings, emotions, and memories.
For instance, it might signify confession, repentance, a session with a psychotherapist, an earnest conversation with a friend, or even a shower—as a ritual of washing away lingering malaise.

A distinguishing feature of the Seven of Cups is the purging of ‘superfluous’ emotions.

The Seven of Cups (the removal of ‘incorrect’ emotions) is closely intertwined with the reversed Ten of Cups (regret, remorse, and the ‘negative’ transformation of feelings). They are, more often than not, intimately interwoven. Thus, the Seven of Cups is easily mistaken for the reversed Ten of Cups.
Yet these are distinct cards. Distinct both in sign and denomination. To tell them apart, one must always consider the card’s sign.
Regret, contrition, guilt, and shame—these are, above all, the ‘reversed,’ the ‘negative’ denomination. Only then comes the cause that transforms—the Ten—of the psyche.

Eight of Cups

Well, Masha, you truly astound me! I admire your constancy—four marriages, and always the same lover!

Eight, in Kabbalah, is form plus form: stability, constancy.
Cups are emotions, feelings, and memories.
Thus, the Eight of Cups embodies a certain stability, resilience, and constancy—a structure of emotions, feelings, and memories.
It may symbolize enduring feelings, emotions, and memories. For example: confidence, composure, loyalty, tranquility.
In the realm of memory and recollection, the Eight of Cups may be a steadfast, resilient memory. For instance, the memory of one's own name or place of residence.

A defining trait of the Eight of Cups is the stability of feelings, emotions, and memories. Naturally, in the positive aspect.

One of the most vivid examples of the Eight of Cups is the story of the Japanese dog Hachiko. Note that the dog's name is derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the number 'eight.'232

Nine of Cups

A young nymphomaniac woman comes to the police:
"What seems to be the problem? Who are you filing a complaint against?"
"You see, the thing is… I truly love having sex." "It brings me to an indescribable ecstasy." "This wild delight, fiercely boiling inside me during sex, drives me to a certain madness." A storm of wild bliss bursts within me like a bomb, erupting into a mad ecstasy. And then time stands still, I lose all sense of myself and simply rage, until I am hoarse…
And through the night, I experience up to ten orgasms.
– Hmmm… Astonishing! Well, you should probably see a doctor. But why did you come to the police?
– You see, the thing is—my neighbors want to kill me.

The 9 – nine, in Kabbalah, is the final stage before 10 (transformation, transition to a new level). This moment defines the very essence of the Nine.
Accordingly, the Nine signifies completion, perfection, mastery—a certain ideal within its own sphere or rank.
Cups (Hearts) are emotions, feelings, and memories.
Thus, the Nine of Cups is the culmination—the perfection—of feelings, emotions, and memories.
For example, any positive feeling or emotion, brought to the extreme of its expression: delight, ecstasy, awe, reverence, and so on.

What distinguishes the Nine of Cups is its most extreme degree of manifestation.

And so, because of this intensity, the Nine of Cups often provokes the appearance of the Ace or the Five of Cups. Just as lightning in the sky provokes a peal of thunder and the outbreak of fire. Though one accompanies the other, they are distinct events and cards.

Within the realm of memory, the Nine of Cups emerges as a certain—often illusory—ideal of perception.

For example, certain lines from A.S. Pushkin’s poem 'I Remember a Wonderful Moment…' stand as a vivid illustration of the Nine of Cups.240

Ten of Cups

My wife has gone on a business trip. At home remained only the husband and the cat.
Day one:
The cat approaches the bowl:
– Fуууууууу…buckwheat…
He snorts and refuses to eat.
He comes back on the second day:
– Ew, ew, ew… yesterday’s buckwheat…
With an indignant flick of his tail, he leaves.
On the third day:
– Wow! Buckwheat!
And he quickly devours it all, while there is still something left to eat.

The Ten, in Kabbalah, signifies transformation—a transition into a new state.
