The bulk of the book is devoted to a critical examination of the New Testament text. Why, for example, does Matthew relate Jesus's genealogy through Joseph, but then himself writes that Joseph is not his father? Why and for what purpose does Matthew have magi come to the newborn Jesus, and why from the East? Why, in Mark, are the women at the empty tomb greeted by a young man, rather than angel(s), as in the other gospel writers? Why does Mark begin his biography of Jesus with his baptism by John? And so on: there are many questions, and finding answers to them seems an interesting endeavor. Three appendices to the book are devoted to psychology and conspiracy theories. For example, the reader will learn what motivated J.R.R. Tolkien to write The Lord of the Rings, and V.I. Ulyanov to take "Lenin" as his second surname, and the connection between these two motives.
