THE ARRIVAL HOME

I was looking for my mother, but I couldn`t smell her anymore. I was cold, and also hungry.
I saw figures moving around me, I heard noises, and three different and unknown smells.
I have to be honest, I was also a little scared.
Every now and then I felt caresses on my back and head, so much so that the skin under the fur cloak tingled all over me, making me shiver pleasantly, and the fear passed, but only for a few moments.
Then I smelled a good smell, and I was lifted up to land in an unknown but pleasant embrace: the contact with that warm body, the caresses and the voice that whispered things to me that I didn`t understand (but which had a wonderful sound) made me want to doze off, extinguishing my fears of unknown noises and smells.
So I rested my head and felt a heart beat along with mine.
I slept for I don`t know how long, and when I woke up the good smell was still with me, caressing me… I still couldn`t see well, I only perceived blurry spots.
I felt something soft touching my mouth: I started biting it. A warm, sweet liquid reached my tongue and went down into my belly, giving me great pleasure.
How good, It was so tasty!
It tasted like my furry mother`s milk, but here there were no little siblings to fight over for some, it was all for me!
I stopped trembling and started thinking how I trusted that smell, which had conquered my heart.
Well, this was the first meeting with the two-legged mother.

Then it got dark, and silence invaded all-around me. The good smell had gone away and I didn`t know where to take refuge.
I was a little ashamed of it, but I started crying: I didn`t want to do it (something inside me told me I had to be strong), but yelps came out of my belly that I couldn`t hold back.
For a moment, the light returned, and two strong hands, which were not the ones that smelled like my mother, lifted me up and fear took hold of me again. I landed on something rough and hairless, but strangely soft.
My heart started beating wildly again, then I heard another heartbeat chasing mine, slower and deeper.
The hands that had taken me and lifted me had a different smell from the one I had started to trust, a male smell, and they caressed me, making me understand that I didn't have to be afraid: I abandoned myself to that warmth that didn't smell like my mother, but which reassured me anyway.

This smell also whispered things to me that I didn't understand while caressing me.
Where was my hairy mama?
And my little brothers?
The darkness returned, and I sought refuge from fear and questions in the unknown arms of the male, who held me gently.
That would be my two-legged dad. I don't know how, but I already knew it, and I fell asleep smiling.
A NEW FAMILY
I woke up. The night had passed so quickly that I hadn't even realized it.
The smell of mother encountered the day before took me in her arms and made me drink a warm and sweet liquid.
Then a third smell reached my nostrils: it smelled of earth and leaves, and it didn't touch me, but I heard it say things.
The smell of mother put me on the ground, leaving me free to roam, and the smell of earth and leaves, which had recently arrived, was in front of me and touched my ears, bringing its nose closer to mine.
With him, I was sure, I would play and have a lot of fun!
I found a home and a family!

A few days after my arrival, my vision began to clear up, so I was able to give an image to the smells that had accompanied me until then.
It was very strange that they walked only on their hind legs, were not covered with fur, and, above all, did not have a tail …
Mom's smell was as beautiful as I had imagined, with light, long hair on her head and two very sweet eyes.

The male smell that consoled me the first night, when I cried, was bigger and had short dark hair on his head: he caressed the mother's smell and often called her “love”, which must surely mean something beautiful.
The smell of leaves and earth, however, was a puppy like me: I recognized him again because he was smaller than the other two: he only caressed me when the others couldn't see us, but I liked him that way too!
THE ENCOUNTER WITH OMBRA
One morning the sun was high in the sky, and I was left free to run in a beautiful garden, which until then I had only seen from afar.
My paws sank into the earth, and the happiness of being free and running around in that paradise was enormous!
At a certain point, I saw a figure from afar that looked so much like my mother, and I froze. We looked at each other for a very long time, motionless.
She had light fur and a tail fluttering in the wind.
The two-legged child went towards her, but she had her gaze fixed on me: she approached at a slow pace.
She wasn't my mom, but she walked on all fours like me!
I decided to get closer, and she also started moving her slow steps towards me.
We met halfway, on the lawn: from a distance it looked less big!

She walked around me, and after having explored me all over with her big wet nose, she sat down on the floor. Maybe she liked me!
So I ran around her to play a bit, but she remained still, and in fact, in response, she laid down: that position invited me to try to climb her enormous back, biting her ears and mouth. I was very happy.

She patiently growled at me only a couple of times, one of which scared me a little, but only a little.
I got tired, so I crouched between her paws, and she let me do it. I learned new things day by day, and I recognized more and more often the meaning of the sounds they made: the two-legged mother was called Roberta, the child Matteo, and the father Sergio.
